Explore Lummi Island

If it isn’t clear already, we absolutely love our home island, Lummi. One of our primary goals for creating Stay & Sea is to help create an authentic island experience for our guests and island visitors.

Life on Lummi is unlike most places, even in the San Juan Islands. We’re just a short less-than-ten-minute ferry ride across Hale Passage from Whatcom County. Since we are so accessible to the mainland and its amenities and services, the island can stay fairly undeveloped. That being said, though, islanders are resourceful, skilled, and adaptable; we have a tendency to need less than our mainland neighbors, and we build strong community ties to help one another out.

We’re a small but thriving community made up of farmers, creative folks, craftspeople, artists, makers, ranchers, fishermen, business owners, and many other interesting and generous islanders. Despite our fairly small size, there is a lot to do and explore!

Islanders and visitors easily fall in love with Lummi’s unspoiled beaches and rolling, pastoral hills and inland farms. From our epic sunsets on the west shore and the white-capped peak of Mount Baker, to the soaring bald eagles and passing orcas, there’s so much beauty and enchantment to admire.
